Action to Protect Homeless Brothers and Sisters

From a report by MADSA member Lorraine Fontana: The Direct Action Hunger Alliance, ATL Homeless Relief, and the Housing Justice League responded on Monday, Jan. 7 to the several deaths of people without shelter who have been dying of exposure on the street in the colder weather.

First a march from the Coroner’s Office to city hall carrying two coffins, and crosses representing those who have passed, then a rally outside Atlanta City Hall, followed by a press conference and then people including brother Marshall Rancifer speaking during the community comments section of the City Council meeting with a small die-in at the end. We then marched around the building to the Miichell Street side of City Hall and held a short rally until the news media (only Channel 5) showed up for the previously announced News Conference.

Brother Matthew Cardinale also spoke and introduced a proposed ordinance to repeal the ordinance making it illegal to move household goods at night, which is often used to criminalize homeless people. See http://atlantaprogressivenews.com/…/after-homeless-deaths-…/
